Why does my heart feel like it's skipping a beat?

I'm a 19 year old female and every so often it feels like my heart skips a beat it happens maybe three times a week at most, sometimes more than once a day though. It's a strange feeling I feel pressure almost and then like my heart skipped a beat or took to many beats at once it's hard to explain. I also find it harder to breathe when i'm laying on my back, idk if that has anything to do with it. I have a history of heart disease in my family (leaky valves, murmurs, tachycardia, a-fib etc. and my grandmother just had a triple bypass/valve replacement) so i'm worried there may be something wrong with me? Any ideas as to what this could be?

Sometimes this happens to everyone. It is called Ectopic heart beat. You think your heart skipped a beat, but what happens is the electrical system in the heart goes on an erratic mode once in a long while... This happens more if your have an anxiety disorder or are afraid of something for a few minutes etc. Not to worry, nothing will happen to you.

It might as well be an anxiety issue. I have all kind of weird problems with heart including shortness of breath and weird beats. since I started to get on paxil I am doing much better.

I doubt its anything serious! Your 19, it could just be paranoia. Your mind knows that heart disease runs in the family and is just keeping you aware. No big deal, but you should still consult a doctor just in case!
