Chechens - religious fanatics, freedom fighters or soulless mercenaries?
Chechens fighting in Chechnya against the Russia. They are fighting in Georgia against Ossetia. They are fighting in South Ossetia against Georgia. They kill the Armenians in Armenia. Chechens fighting against Turkey on the side of the Kurds. Chechens fight in Iraq against the Kurds on the U.S. side. They are fighting in Afghanistan against the U.S. They kill the Jews in Israel. They kill Frenchmen in Mali. They are fighting against the Muslims in Libya and Syria. Finally, they are fighting in Chechnya against other Chechens and arrange bombings in the United States.
Who are they?
Religious fanatics? They why did they kill other Muslims and help the infidel?
Freedom fighters? But is Ichkeria is in Israel, Afghanistan or the United States?
Or maybe they're just new "Swiss"? Soulless mercenaries for which sound of coins has replaced honor, conscience, homeland and God?
So who we grew on our heads?.. again. What new snakes is now grown up America?
What to do with them? What do they want?
The land? The death of all infidels? Or "Chechen money"?

I don't pretend to understand the full background to Chechnya but most accounts seem to confirm the 'struggle' has been to establish an independent ISLAMIC STATE - which is somewhat different to freedom-fighters in favour of democracy, equal rights etc.
We in the UK have experience of muslim 'British citizens' attending terrorist training camps in Pakistan - on the pretext of helping their 'brothers and sisters suffering in Chechnya' but then plotting terrorism in the UK.
Who's trying to fool whom remains a mystery but of course the extremists do seek Islam becoming the global religion - along with Mohammed's diktats on social, political and economic matters.
I don't think the jihadists are mercenaries but follow the simple belief that those not FOR them are automatically AGAINST them - and justifiable targets for Jihad.
The especially insidious aspect is that in random, murderous terrorist attacks, any fellow muslims killed are 'martyrs' to the same cause - and fast-tracked to Paradise, along with the killers.

There are over 300,000,000 people in the USA. You can probably find at least one of every kind.
Even in Chechnya, with not much more than 1,000,000, you can find considerable variety.
To me, it was quite amazing to see what happened when the USSR started breaking up and different ethnicities going to war with each other. I had thought the USSR had pretty well suppressed religion and national identities other than Soviet. Suddenly there was genocidal violence all over the place.
Of course, some of it could have been happening under the USSR also, but kept secret.
