Is there another or more specific word for children or teenagers who identify as the other gender?

Than transgender? I did an oral presentation a few years ago about children who were the other gender mentally, but not physically. Like, they were born with the wrong body, basically.

I swear it was not "transgender" but I can't remember the word and I don't have the files anymore (since it's been 3 years.)

Thanks.

Not that I can think of. Unless you're thinking of the average child - majority of kids don't fit into perfect gender stereotypes. Otherwise the umbrella "transgender" works, with the more specific "transsexual" if the child completely identifies as the opposing gender to their assigned sex.

Gender variant children? I've also heard the term "pink boys" used to describe particularly feminine male children.

Transgender is the overall category which includes Transvestites (those who dress as the opposite sex) and Transsexuals (Those who identify as the opposite sex and what to transition)

I think the word you are looking for is Transsexuals.
