I called 9-1-1 when I was having a heart attack three years ago. The dispatcher kept me on the line, talking to me until I heard the ambulance sirens coming. It took about five minutes for them to get there. The dispatcher kept talking to me to make sure I stayed conscious, so she wouldn't have to tell the EMS people to forcibly enter to get me out. She asked me my name, address, and to describe my symptoms. It was to keep me calm and focused. I would count it as a good experience, because the ambulance and fire truck were at the house in a very short time. They had about five miles to travel, and they were traveling about a mile a minute to get to me. They had to travel on a freeway and cross another freeway to get here. They were both running Code 3 (lights and siren). They also already knew (from the dispatcher) what was going on, and they were ready with oxygen, an EKG, and an IV. It took about four minutes to get to the hospital.
