How to use Laptop, on Power or Battery?

I mean on what power source should I use it For the longer durability of the batteries of the laptop, Because one friend told me that batteries has limited cycle of charging and discharging so you should always whenever possible use it on 'plugged in' i.e on AC power, and another friend told me that if you keep it plugged in even after batteries are fully charged then it reduces its life because of overheating, hence I am confused, please tell me which is the good way to use laptop for the longer life of batteries...

Thanks for your answers...

charge it till its full and then use the battery till it drains, because if you are charging the battery while its fully charged already you'll damage it in no time!

change your power options to notify you that the battery is low when its at 12% remaining and it gives you enough time to save all data and then to shut down properly when it reaches 8% battery if you are unable to charge it at that moment. Instead of allowing it to turn of unexpectedly cause it might damage the data on the hard disk.

Ti here is right about the batteries. it really doesn't matter on the battery if you leave the laptop plugged in. once it is charged the a/c adapter will stop charging the battery
