Why would parents make children believe in?

We don't make them. It's fun when you are small. I loved the idea of Father Christmas as we call him in England - no Easter bunnies - but tooth fairies oh yes. My ma had a little china armchair ornament and we kids put our teeth on the seat bit with a glass over the top and no matter how hard we looked or how often, we never did see the tooth fairy come and change it for a six pence!

If you can't have a little magic when you are a child - it would be a sad old world.

Perhaps when you have kids you will change your mind. I do hope so.

What parent "makes" a child believe in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, or the Tooth Fairy?

Because parents enjoy the temporary pleasures received from seeing their child act in a certain way when the above characters are mentioned. However, some of them do not realize the future consequences of their actions, and they have to face the drama of a depressed girl realizing that Santa Claus doesn't exist or a pissed off son who didn't get his money when he put this tooth under the pillow.

They are just having fun with Santa Claus, Easter bunnies,tooth fairies etc.

The real problems begin when they teach children that they have to believe in the magic man in the sky and his son, or magic son will have them tortured for eternity. That's what professionals refer to at "child abuse" of the worst sort.

You have made a very interesting point. Parents try to convince their children of these stupid things (lies) and then get all shocked and shaken when their kids in turn lie back to them. Sometimes adults can be the biggest hypocrites of all!

Why do we make videos/films with Elmo, Big Bird, Kermit etc.? Do we really think these characters exist and can talk?

Or could they have some other purpose?
