Help for a Canadian needing a temporary cell phone in NY?
Traveling from Ontario to NY for about 6 days
The cell phone plan we currently have will charge us an arm and a leg for data usage in the USA.
We need data to access GPS etc as it will be our first time there and we will need help
I hear about dispoable phones in the USA
How does that work?
Is it worth it?
Any other ideas?

I don't think you get gps with a cheap phone. How about wifi? Smart phones use wifi when it is available. Bring a tablet or laptop. Most restaurants now have wifi as well as hotels, motels. You probably have good wifi coverage in Ontario, too.
I have a Magellan gps in my car I bought for $50. Doesn't need any data plan. It has US and Canada on it and a 4" screen. Better than a phone.
