gunked up 2004 Kia Rio Cinco engine locked up. Can it be flushed?

My car was running great, and then it just stopped while I was driving. Mechanic said the car had oil, but they said the engine was all gunked up, and they couldn't even get it to turn manually. Someone said they bought a vehicle with a locked engine due to gunk up of oil in it, flushed it many times, and now it works great so I'm wondering if that is something I could do to this one.

I'm a widow that has had to basically start over due to a series of unfortunate events so I don't have the money to replace the engine, nor do I think this vehicle is worth that kind of money even with only 87,000 miles on it. I also cannot afford to buy another vehicle at this point so I'm hoping and praying for some kind of miracle here. Thanks for any help/advice you can offer me.

No amount of gunk can stop an engine from turning. Complete hogwash. Gunk can cause an engine to fail, it will not stop it from turning, certainly not something that is reversible.

    Something else is wrong.

That is way too new and low miles to be "gunked up", unless you put something other than oil in it by mistake, it was sabotaged, or you blew a head gasket and have water in the oil?

By "gunked up", did he mean the oil looked like chocoate milk foam? If so, that is water from a bad head gasket.

Generally not being able to turn it manually is really bad.

But check for something else beingn locked up, like alternator, AC, power steering, etc.

Check timing belt, because if bad, valves hit piston and lock up.

Worst case is a salvage engine $800, and $400 installation.

SORRY! once an engine has FROZEN you need a replacement or serious repairs done! The BEARINGS may have been-adventure and use ONLY SYNTHETIC OIL in whatever you arre driving! it is VERY forgiving for extended periods of oil change NEGLECT and MOBIL ONE 0W-30 fits most engines VERY WELL! NO SLUDGE or COKE or CLOGGING agents will be made! You can pay someone to drop the OIL PAN for an inspection! Expect NEW BEARINGS at least if you are VERY LUCKY and the bottom end is NOT BURNED UP! The KIA is a very durable engine, but it CANNOT HANDLE BAD OIL or improper COOLANT USE! HOPEFULLY a Pro can repair this for you!! <<<<<<OR MAYBE>>>>> you only have a broken TIMING BELT! SLUDGE wil clog up an engine and ruin TURBO, and SUPER CHARGED cars, and most REFINED four cylinder engines QUICKLY! The JUNK YARDS are LOADED with CHRYLER 2.7 enginescylinderED from engine slduge and poor internal engine BREATHING! ONLY the OLDER. less refined carb engines could SURVIVE major sludge issues. They were VERY loose inside and NOT made to the same exacting specifications MODERN ENGINES are made to! Go to ANY JUNKYARD you like and ask about SLUDGE RUINED ENGINES! they will have ROWS and ROWS of them!!!! IT is EASY to remove the TIMING BELT cover on all KIA engines, and the GOOD thing is that most KIA engines are NOT interference fit engines! If the TIMING BELT has broken, it will NOT damage the engine inside! If THIS is the case, then expect a SMALL repair bill under $250!!! have the engine EVALUATED for sludge and have it FULLY REMOVED! IT KILLS ENGINES< believe me! I have RESTORED engines from nearly ALL car makers from around the world! GOOD LUCK ALWAYS and let me know WHAT REALLY happened!

Source(s): HOPEFULLY you only need a new TIMING BELT< but get an INSPECTION and change your ways a bit! It is NOT normal for an engine to break a TIMIGN BELT at 87k MIELS! GOOD LUCK!!

Go find a different mechanic who can diagnose the REAL problem with your engine. I'm willing to bet it's more likely to be a busted timing belt, which should have been changed about 30,000 miles ago.

Never heard of a "gunked" up engine not being able to even get turned.

i think that there continues to be something incorrect with your brake caliper or grasp cylinder brake. the two could properly be somewhat high priced. one extra subject, do no longer pay them or have a reimbursement if the problm replaced into no longer fixed

flushing sometimes do help but you have to watch doing that because if there,s too much grime laying inside the oil pan it can loosen up and clog the oil pump !
