Do you agree with this assessment of Left and Right?

I was reading a book and found a very interesting stand about Left and Right. I wanted to see what you think of it. Below is a little graph that sums it up.

Total Amount of Government Power

I---------------I---------------I

100%.........50%............0%

Far...............................Far

Left............................Right

In essence, Left and Right is how much control the government has. Far Left is totilltarion such as Communism, Fascism, and Dictatorships, Far Right is anarchy. Obviously neither are favorable to the general public, so a balance is the policy. The issue is just what constitutes a good balance.

Agree or disagree, and why?

Update:

@Sadcat I must disagree that the Right wants more government control in said areas, but I will agree that the Republican party does. Have you considered that maybe the GOP isn't nearly as right as most people believe?

Update 2:

@Sadcat I must disagree that the Right wants more government control in said areas, but I will agree that the Republican party does. Have you considered that maybe the GOP isn't nearly as right as most people believe?

Update 3:

@FreeThinker Why is Fascism far right? What is your basis of Right and Left?

Absolutely not. The left in America want personal/social freedom for all, but some government control of economics. The right in America want personal/social government control, but more freedom in economics. Go take the test at politicalcompass.org and then read their FAQs and Analysis and you'll see the error in your thinking. Then have a group of people you know take the test and share their answers with you.

Completely incorrect, by a very, very long way.

Google a site called 'political compass' and read what it has to say. Right and left wing concepts exist on more than 1 axis, in fact, ive seen a chart where political assessments have 8 axis before.

I visualize it more like a box, left-right going horizontally and authoritarian-libertarian going vertically. There are a lot of right-wing people who claim to be small government but who don't feel that way regarding particular issues for whatever reason, and left wingers usually praise big government but then say things like, "government, get out of my vagina."

LOL, the right wants to control you, LOL. Read the graph you nits.

The right is for liberty. The only liberty the left espouses is sexual liberty because they don't believe in responsibility and consequences. Don't buy that? That's why, despite the proliferation of condoms and birth control (which would be responsible to use) they use abortion as their birth control (no consequence, except for the fetus). Religion, the left wants freedom FROM , not OF. Many examples of squelching of religion by the left from prayer at graduation ceramonies, to covering of crosses in parks. Who is the coercive force really? Need more? Gun control. I'm not forcing guns ONTO leftists, they literally want to take or deny me my right to one. And let's not forget forced equality, via social "justice". There are more, but I think it's apprapoe to mention the creation of politically correct speech, to squelch debate and demonize the opponents of the left as (fill in the blank with unpleasant name of your choice).

Coercion is in the DNA of the left. More government, more regulations, more taxes= MORE CONTROL. You couldn't make it up if you tried. Only their true believers and bestest name callin demonizers could logically refute this (emotionally, yeah, logically...not so much)

Far left does not resemble Fascism. That is the far right that does that . Please get your facts straight. Far left only resembles communism and both sides to the far extreme have dictatorships.

Sounds good, but the concept gets lost in the implementation.

    Interpretation of law, flow:

    individual rights> laws

It serves no one's interests to constantly be looking toward government (of either party) to maintain individual rights, and means of acquiring life's necessities.

    Too simple.

The right wing traditionally has wanted more control over personal life--abortion, sex, drugs, even clothing and religion.

i would say your assessment of the left is right but the right wanting anarchy? no, that's a left wing thing.
