Ottawa, Christmas 2013!?

Hello everyone,

Can someone recommend a hotel in downtown Ottawa, that's nice, updated, festive, but not so expensive.

We ( it's two of us) would like to be in walking distance or easy, easy, bus ride to Parliament, shopping, restaurants.

I'm hoping someone in the know will let us know of the nice hotel that's just, you know, a couple of blocks further, and cheaper, yet still close to all the activity.

Also, can someone suggest anything we should do or see while there. We'll only be there about 4 days around Dec 25th.

Thanks much!

I managed to find about 25 hotels in walking distance (maximum 1km) to Parliament. Just input your dates of stay and sort it by price: http://search.lowerhotels.com/Place/Parliament_Hil...

The Novatel Apartment Hotel is right downtown, at Nicholas, and Rideau. It is walking distance to Parliament Hill, and very close (2 minute walk - if that) to the Byward market. It is a apartment hotel, so, it has kitchenettes, sitting rooms, for about the price of a regular downtown Ottawa hotel - or, less.

I've not been in in for a few years, but, it is fairly new, and was really clean, and well kept when I was last there.

I lived in Ottawa for many years, and Christmas was always about Church, and family. So, I'm not sure what will even be open then.

If you are looking for a hotel over the holiday season, expect to pay about $100-$130 a night for a room based on double-occupancy.

Here are a few I found on TripAdvisor that are in the 30 top-rated Ottawa hotels and all in the price range I indicated. (I only pick ones with decent ratings and that look nice from customer photos...)

    - Quality Hotel Downtown

    - National Hotel and Suites

    - Novotel Ottawa

    - Best Western Victoria Park

If you are looking for a cozy or romantic getaway, you may want to look at a bed&breakfast:

    - Australis Guest House

    - Ottawa Centre B&B
