Why are there so many bad spin-off tv shows?
I know that a spin-off TV show is a show where typically an existing character from the original show is placed in a new show.
What I question why people in the media business are so eager to find ways to make spin-offs that are not necessarily planned well compared to the movie making business where they don't like making a sequel for sequel's sake. So why are there so many bad spin-off shows being produced when it's easy to come up with a fresh idea?

I don't think they are that many actually. I think the media learned from past unsuccessful spinoffs and just stopped doing them. When people did do spinoffs they thought the new show could carry on the success of the past show.
