How can I linearly combine 2 photos Or a photo & text .....pl read details ....?

I'd like to know of a good, easy practical app that will allow me to combine 2 or more photos in linear fashion And more importantly, add text beneath, on a colored background, with my choice of font(s).

Something like this, but with text too : http://pinterest.com/pin/431501208017550807/

Or something more like this, except that I'd like color in the background : http://pinterest.com/pin/563794447071404535/

(( Or I could do this on my PC? If so, what file format should I use & how to go about it - some basic tips?))

I take photos taken on my android phone. I'd prefer to Type out the text on my PC as a Word doc [Windows 7]. Then upload photo to PC & combine the 2. [I hate typing out long sentences on the mobile].

Also, I'd like color for the textual background, not plain white. You know how text on MS Paint leaves white spaces within letters...ugh !

Once I create such pics, I'd like to upload to pinterest...hence the need to have an image file format.

I also understand that one can probably use a PC photo program/editor ....but I can't seem to find any on my current listing of Windows programs. [This was updated over a year ago & I haven't needed to use it since].

Which would you recommend - Instagram, flickr, tinypic, photobucket, tumblr.....that would be compatible & easy to use, with both my android & Windows? Preferrably free, with choice of fonts

These are very basic Qs, but I'm missing something that's driving me nuts....Please help with tips & suggestions or some tutorial sites.

If any more details are required, let me know ...

Thanks in advance, for taking the time to read & hopefully answer :-)

Update:

I've been tinkering just now & found Presto Page Manager. I tried adding text to one image; worked fine, Except that it adds text Over the image, obscuring part of it, Not Beneath the photo as a distinct entity.

DSLR photography doesn't need to be over-complicated. This online photography course has been developed for beginners - intermediate levels and will teach you how to make the best use of your DSLR camera. https://tr.im/VtJKd

Learning how to confidently use your DSLR will help you get full value out of this awesome camera you have already paid for!

This course has been developed after seeing many potential photographers give up far too soon, wasting good money they have spent on the purchase of their DSLR camera.
