are any of the streaming media devices a good alternative to cable?

I am thinking of getting a media player such as a Roku or Google tv. Do any of you have these and if so how do you like it? I really want to eliminate my cable or maybe downgrade to basic cable. Any info you have would be great

    It depends what you want and expect.

    For most cable programming, it is not a replacement for it, especially if you want to watch it as it airs on cable, or soon there after.

    For movies and older TV series, and some broadcast, it can be a replacement for.
