Any opinions on the Marin San Rafael DS2 Bike?
My partner is considering this one for recreational cycling purposes and I've only been able to find one review online -- If anyone has any special knowledge about, or experience with, this bike, your help would be appreciated.

I am not sure what you requirements are when you mention recreational. I will however say that the bicycle is capable of general light duty downhill moutain biking and also long rides. I use it in New Zealand.
The gear changes are average compared to say the Shimano Ultegra groupset which I have on a Trek Domane racer. But they work, so no complaints here.
The fork is fairly soft and I could never get it hard enough for my liking. But for recreational purposes, it should be fine.
The tyres are a perfect size for mountain work and riding on the paths. The particular thread on the tyres allow a smooth ride, but the side has enough blocks for traction when you need it.
Only complaint is that the brakes are average. On my previous model (Marin city sport) they used a tektro brake and that worked really well, for the DS2 they used very average pads. Again, if it is for recreational use, then it should be suffice. Otherwise get the next model up, the DS3 or may be worth considering to change the brake pads at the shop!
The frame is light. One thing about marin is the high quality of their frames. Lov'em.This is my second one. BTW if you want something that is more for paths, consider the Marin lakspur.
