This is a problem of "arrangement".
You can take it to something more simple, as: in how many ways can you place 4 children on a bench that can only occupy 6?
Anyway, the answer: Arrangement of (4) in (6) which is 6! / (6-4)! = 6x5x4x3x2! / 2!
So the number of ways is: n = 6x5x4x3 = 360 possible ways :)

1st pen can go in any of 6pockets once done 5pockets empty
2nd pen can go in any of 5pockets
3rd pen can go in any of 4 pockets
4th pen can go in any of 3 pockets
number of ways = 6 x5x 4x 3 = 360 ways
