I make websites with Yahoo SiteBuilder, uses Java 6 - won't up-date to Java 7?

When I downloaded Java 7, Yahoo SiteBuilder refused to open. One of those sites pays me to keep it up-dated. Is Yahoo going to fix this? I can stay at Java 6 for SiteBuilder, but then everything else wants Java 7. What to do?

    Hi Chris,

Sorry you are having trouble with SiteBuilder. We have released an updated version of SiteBuilder that is compatible with Java 7.

For best results please follow these instructions for installation:

    1. Uninstall all copies of Java

    2. Uninstall Yahoo! SiteBuilder (your site files will not be deleted)

    3. Restart your computer

    4. Download the latest version of Yahoo! SiteBuilder from http://sitebuilder.yahoo.com/

    5. Install Yahoo! SiteBuilder

    6. When prompted by the SiteBuilder installer, allow the installation of java.

    7. Once installation completes, java 7 will be installed and you will be able to run SiteBuilder.

If you continue to have trouble, please contact us at http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com/contactus for further troubleshooting assistance.

Windows 7 Compatibility is an issue. You need to set compatibility mode for Windows 7. Uninstall any versions of Java above 7.

I have Java 7 update 51 on my system and it works fine

Recently had the problem with Yahoo Sitebuilder not opening from the shortcut, start up, or when set to 'Run as Administrator'.

I uninstalled Yahoo Sitebuilder and any versions of Java other than Java 7. Restarted the computer, installed Sitebuilder and 'presto'. It works fine.

I just uninstalled ysb 2.6, uninstalled Java 6. installed ysb 2.8.7 and java 7. did a test. then published. came back to work on site, and banners were missing, text boxes missing, and because this happened just a couple of years ago, when I first tried java 7 with 2.6 ysb, I know LINKS will be disabled too. My site is over 1245 pages. HUGE. and i have had to re link EVERYTHING, except the navigation links. So I want to warn people that the Java 7 does NOT work with the New yahoo site builder!! I trusted this post, when I decided to install the java 7....but I knew better...deep down I knew better.. YAHOO it's been nice for a while... Loved designing with YSB, but the java thing must be fixed PROPERLY. Since I will have to spend my vacation now re linking everything...I have decided to use that time instead to build a new site somewhere else. sigh. jen

After reading the above comment, I was petrified to do what the Sitebuilder tech insisted... Uninstall Java, Uninstall Sitebuilder and reinstall Sitebuilder which in turn would install the proper Java. I hesitated but had no other option as Sitebuilder was not opening after a Java update. I did what she said and everything worked perfectly. My website suffered no problems after making changes and updates. All links are intact. LOOKS GOOD and the updated sitebuilder looks / feels great from the short visit I had.

This does work but I find I have to do it EVERY time I want to use it which gets old. Java updates keep messing with Sitebuilder. Then it tells me I don't have the right User ID and won't publish. Over and over. Really bad lately.

You need the ones compatible with IE 7.... this may be tough if not impossible to find at this time, since most of the sites I know who use Flash 7 and java, are not yet prepared for IE 7,... too many difficulties
