So, Rock and Pop, I'm curious - what are your favourite rap songs?
I come to you all because the responses I get here will be very different from those I'd hear in R&HH. I already know about Nas and Biggie and Tupac and Eazy-E, I'm not here to hear about the greats - I want to get some responses from the group that listens to what has essentially become the polar opposite of rap music. I want to know about the best, most meaningful, or weirdest rap music you can think of.
Before you say something along the lines of "rap is crap", I've heard that plenty of times before, and I really don't give two **** about your uninformed opinions. Rap is spoken word poetry set to a beat. It's prose in one of its finest forms. If you don't like it, that's fine, feel free to say so, but give me a legitimate reason. "It takes no effort to rap" and "All rap songs are about sex/drugs/money/violence" are also not valid answers.
BQ: Favourite rap album?
BQ2: Favourite rap artist?
BQ3: Out of the four greats I mentioned above, who would you say is your favourite?
BQ4: Drake or Common?
BQ5: Tupac or Biggie? Everlast or Eminem? 50 Cent or the Game?
BQ6: Best rap feud in terms of spawned creative works?
BQ7: Favourite decade for rap music?
Thank you all for your answers! That Guitar Dude, while I do agree with what you say to a lesser degree, now is neither the time, nor the place. Take it elsewhere, please.
Obi, I respect your response, but it does take talent to write and perform rap music. That's just a fact. You have to be able to spit rhymes at a good speed, and do so clearly enough to be understood. You have to be able to set down a beat, and write lyrics that flow well. Rhyme is important. Rhythm is important. It's not just talking into a mic, as so many people seem to assume.
Finally, don't tell me not to just "come into Rock and Pop" because I've been here a hell of a lot longer than you have, even if I'm not particularly active on this website. I'm one of the oldest users in this section. Does that make me better, or smarter than you? No, and I don't claim it does. But don't treat me like some new, wet behind the ears kid, like I don't know the kind of people that hang out here.

BQ5: Tupac had good, heartfelt lyrics, but he didn't have great flow. Biggie is the other way around- he had great flow, but his lyrics were pretty typical gansta stuff. I don't really prefer one over the other, and I'm not a fan of those other rappers
BQ6: I know it's typical, but Jay-Z and Nas
BQ7: It's not a decade, but late the 90s and early 2000s are my favorite eras for rap

Actually, the fact that no actual vocal talent is needed for rap is pretty valid. Sorry. And when you add the fact that most rappers haven't used real drums in around 25 years, you really don't want to come into the rock section and call anyone uninformed. If you didn't want the feed back, you shouldn't have brought it up.
That said, I like rap anyway because it's so damm much fun and the lyrics (even the trashy ones) are often really interesting. It's good ear candy. And nobody ever said sex and drugs and outrage were bad things.
My favourite rap of all time has to be King Of Rock by (the gods of hip hop) Run DMC. But I also like work by Kid Rock (used to be a rapper), Fat Boys, Grandmaster Flash, The Beasties, Tupac, more Run DMC, Fitty Cent, anything by Ice T, and Public Enemy.

1. The Eminem Show or Relapse by Eminem
2. Eminem
3. Nas (one of the best rappers of all time)
4. Common (Drake doesn't rap half the time and when he does it's usually ok at best)
5.Tupac (There's nothing wrong with Biggie though)
Eminem without a doubt
The Game but 50 Cent is also pretty good.
6. I guess maybe Eminem's feud with Ja Rule because his diss song "Hailie's Revenge" is one of his best songs
7. I think the mid 90s to mid 2000s were the best time for rap. Before then it was still in its early stages and in the past few years I've been horrified at what rap has become these days.
Source(s): Me (I primarily listen to rock and metal but I'm into rap as well) - Anonymous8 years ago
I mostly only listen to metal, but when I listen to hip-hop, I find myself listening to a lot of underground rap songs.
BQ: Aesop rock - Labor Days
BQ2: Eyedea
BQ3: 90's Nas
BQ4: Common
BQ5: Tupac, Eminem, 50 Cent
BQ6: Eminem and ICP
BQ7: Early 2000s era. Underground hip-hop was in its prime. If we're talking about mainstream hip-hop, then the 90s
