Discrepancy between ambulatory blood pressure monitor from doctor and my hand held one?

The systolic measurement is off by about 20 points! The doctor's one says 109/82 and my hand held one says 129/84 is this normal?? I'm confused!

Update:

No I haven't been measuring them a lot together. It is just the doctor's one seems so much lower so I checked it on my hand held once! I guessed too that the doctor's one was the most reliable, it just seems SO low compared to what I have been used to! Thanks for answering :0)

Are you measuring your b/p with both monitors at the same point on your body and the same time? If not, that can give you different readings. Also, hate to say it, but a lot of the b/p monitors people buy for themselves over the counter just aren't that accurate or reliable. Given a choice, I'd go with the readings from the monitor supplied by your doctor.

The real change is that the legit ones (digital or mercury) are calibrated periodically to a identified common and the private ones (regardless of varieties) aren't. The sort you could buy at a drug retailers will always provide varying results. By the way, your test itself is probably not accurate. If you hold taking blood pressures on the identical arm (assuming that is what you probably did), the studying will maintain rising.
