Leopard gecko questions?
I am considering getting a leopard gecko and want to make sure from the start i am caring for it properly
I was going to say what i have learned and would like someone to review it and correct and add things necessary
Habitat
A 10 to 20 gallon tank will suit them, i will prolly get a 15
I will use reptile carpet
I will hav 3 hides one on each side and one in the middle
On one side i will hav a heat lamp that produces around 90 degrees(will turn off at night)
One the other side under the tank and under a hide i will hav a heat pad set for around 80 all the time
I will also hav a shallow water bowl on the cool side of the tank
Also a small calcium bowl
And maybe some other decoration
Anything else?...
Feeding
Will feed meal worms every other day
How much though? What should i know about this? Please educate me
I will coat them in calcium powder before though, i know that
Maybe feed a cricket here and there to watch :)
Cleaning
Will clean out waste as produced
How often should i take the carpet out and clean it? Once a week?
How often should i empty the whole tank and clean the glass?
Will change water every other day or sooner if needed
Handling
Will let in tank for a few days then begin to put my hand in for a few days then eventually hold when calmed down
Any tips on this matter?
I dont want it to hate me!
What else do i need to know? Please im all ears
Thank you for your time

Habitat
I'd get a 20 gallon tank as 15 gallons are hard to find ( at least where I am). While reptile carpet is safer than stuff like sand it can tear the geckos nails out. I prefer paper towels or slate tiles over children's play sand. Go for a under tank heater instead of a heat lamp. Leopard geckos require belly heat to digest food which heat lamps don't produce.
Food
Meal worms do not make a good main diet. They are too fatty and their shell is high is chitin which can cause impaction. Crickets or dubia roaches are much better and they are fairly easy to breed if you cannot go out and get them every week.
Cleaning
You'll be remove the carpet anyway so I'd clean the whole tank then as well.
Handling
Sounds fine.
