cruise from Los Angeles?
Our family has been thinking about doing something special this summer. We usually just go to the beach or something small like an amusement park but since my twin and I are going to be seniors in hs and graduate soon, our parents really want to do something new. Any ideas or recommendations about a cruise trip somewhere from Los Angeles? I heard Canada is nice.....I also heard about Alaska....I heard that we can take something that goes to Catalina Island? From your experience, what do you recommend and how was your trip? How was the place that you went to?
Any recommendations would really help because we have never done anything like that before...
If you also have any other ideas besides a cruise let me know...Something not too expensive though... Thanks! :)
Our family loves nature and hope we get a chance to relax a little and enjoy nature

The only Cruises out of LA are to Mexico, and that is only with a couple of Cruise Lines. Depending on the time of the year you may get a cruise to Hawaii, or up the West Coast. But the only cruises going to Alaska from LA are "Transition" cruises in the Spring or Fall. If you want Alaska you are going to have to sail out of Seattle, Vancouver, or Anchorage. Generally the only Canadian Cities you would see is either Vancouver or Victoria BC.
Although you can take a cruise that will stop in Catalina for a day, if that is your primary goal, you can take one of the many ferries out of San Pedro, Long Beach, or Newport Beach. Not only will it be cheaper but you can then choose to stay on the island.

It's going to be difficult to find cabins for Alaska at this late date, and you'd have to cruise from Seattle or Victoria/Vancouver.
A Canadian cruise might be nice in the Fall, with the changes in colors.
A cruise out of LA isn't going to be worth it, as they only go to the west coast of Mexico [unless it's a repositioning cruise] and those ports aren't worth the bother, not to mention not being all that safe anymore.
Europe would be nice, but expensive. The Caribbean is fun, but summer is hurricane season and is also a busy time, with all the kids out of school.
Go over to VacationsToGo.com and you can see what's available, or at least some of what's available. You'd need to do some research [books at your library] to help you choose among the many, many variables before you'd go to a travel agent to book a cruise. [I would never recommend a first-timer try to go it alone, on line.]

Here's a link which will show you all of the cruises that either start, finish or include Los Angeles. You can search by the cruise date or cruise line.
