Hacker using my laptop?

Your problem is very serious, I think your laptop was hacked using a wireless router as most of the laptops have an inbuilt wifi router. Looks like your laptop was not protected by firewall or any other security system.

my friend knows how to hack and he did something similar to this as a prank. He sent his friend a link on skype and somehow got access to his computer to literally make it do whatever he wanted. Maybe someone did something like that. reformatting the hard drive would wipe out this ability so I'd look back and ask yourself if you opened any sketchy links or let a friend who knows computers well use your laptop

Sounds more like a computer worm, not an actual hacker using your laptop. A computer worm is a standalone malware computer program that replicates itself . These malicious worms are simply designed to damage a computer system as much as possible. It was basically crashing your computer
