Why do I still feel fat?

Over the last 2 years I have gone from a size 18 to around a size 7/8. Until about September I exercised regularly and dieted correctly, then I kinda quit when I started taking care of my grandmother and went up to a size 10. About 2 months ago I started back exercising and dieting and now I am down to a size 6 which was my goal . Everyone tells me I look amazing but I feel like a fat pig on the inside. I don't want to gain or lose anymore weight. Why do I still feel fat?

Its funny how we perceive ourselves. I think the more we become aware of our bodies and understand more about health and weight, and how to stay in control of it, the more we strive for perfection.

I lost a lot of weight a few years ago as well.

People that hadn't seen me for a while didn't recognize me and I even had to convince one friend I wasn't dying of cancer..... lol

I lost my weight by doing a body building routine and eating healthier and less. Have managed to keep the weight off, but I have been trying to develop more muscle, the problem for me is that Its very hard to develop muscle without gaining a little fat at the same time, I started to do it a little but had to stop because i felt like I was going back to my old overweight former self.!!

I'm scared to build muscle effectively because I don't want to gain any fat, even if its only for a few months and even though I know I can easily rid the fat latter, the idea of gaining weight again really bothers me.

Some days I feel fat, other days I feel skinny.....???

At the end of the day I think we have to be happy with what we have achieved.

In our own minds we have a picture of ourselves that is perfect, learn to praise yourself for what you have achieved so far and remind yourself that you should be proud of achieving what many people only dream of.

I think many of us strive for perfection so much that we sub-consciously make it into an unattainable goal.

I had the same issue when I dropped 5 dress sizes a few years back and I asked the same question you are doing now. The best answer I got was, it's similar to when you wear a hat all day. When you take the hat off at the end of the day, it takes a while for you to get used to how your head feels without the hat and it kind of feels like you're still wearing it. This feeling takes a while to go away. The analogy wprks with if you wear a new ring. It takes a while for you to get used to not having it on and you can still feel it there even when you take it off.

It takes quite a while to get used to being smaller than you were. In you're mind, you're used to thinking of yourself as larger. This was a hat/ring that you wore for some time. It's going to take some time to get used to not wearing it anymore.

Your head will catch up with your body soon. Just give yourself time to adjust.

You need to change your mentality, not your physical appearance, in order to not feel fat.
