What do you call this attitude in terms of philosophy?

America has the highest child poverty rate in a developed country.

Child poverty in US among the highest in developed world

Britishers made the movie "Slumdog Millionaire" to highlight the fate of children of India living in poverty.

Poverty is to be counted not in terms of total figures, but as a percentage. The population of India is estimated to be 1.27 billion in 2013. The unofficial figure is some 2.1 billion. You know the population figures of USA and UK.

Is it philosophical mockery or what?

Update:

You should also compare land areas of USA and India. Please note that India is the largest democratic country in the world.

    Hello,

When you say that the population of India is estimated to be 1,27 billion, but that the unofficial figure is about 2,1 billion, it only gives weight to one of my fears (and presumably of many others) - the undercovering of the true world population. The world population of about 7,1 billion people surely is not right. There must be a lot more people living in our planet, since there is no possible way to keep track of the absurdly high growth rate in most parts of Africa and the Middle-East.

But let's suppose there are "only" 7 billion people on Earth. This is already quite a lot, just you watch this page:

    http://www.7billionworld.com/

I agree that there must be some kind of "philosophical mockery" behind these figures. It almost seems like some organizations such are trying to hide some shocking truth.

But why? I can think of a reason. This is a way to hide some preocupying topics, such as poverty. The population in America is about 315 million, and the percentage of poverty might seem little, but when seen in practice is quite high.

Poverty is a clear consequence of overpopulation, thanks to the Industrial Revolution. And trying to fight poverty will only improve human life. But this means the human populaion will grow even more which will lead to more poverty...

This overpopulation is directly related with a mass consumption, which gravely affects sustentability. When I talk about sustentability, I'm referring to the possibility to live in harmony with other living beings and with planet Earth. But more and more this sustenatbility is decreasing. But what can be done? We cannot really prevent the population growth. I heard somebody say that wars and plagues are responsible for sustaining the world human population. But paradoxically our efforts are to erradicate those calamities...

Please don't get me wrong. In my opinion, I think it is very noble of the human being to try to stop wars and plagues, because, in my view, the massive lost of human lives is unecessay. But it is also true that we must not be egocentrical - that is to say, we should respect our fellow living beings, and look to ways to create a sustainable world.

Another counter-balance is that we shouldn't think of the human population as numbers. Each and everybody is unique, and when somebody says that the human population should be shorter on some billions, it is the same as saying that you should eliminate "some billions" of unique people.

This is such an important point you've mentioned. The philoshopy behind human population and sustentability/poverty.. I think more people should be interested in these kind of topics, because this is important for everybody.

I'm sorry if my answer wasn't as clear or detailed as you might have expected, but this is a very deep topic that requires a lot of time to think, which I sadly don't dispose. But, nevertheless, I hope it helped.

This is not an attitude, this is purely statistics
