Why don't young people care about politics?

I am 16. I see my peers around me, and all they care about is partying, playing games, and bring a "kid", meanwhile the guys in Ottawa or DC for the Americans screw us. I am extremely involved at least the most I can be while still doing good in school (87 average). We are the ones that have to bear the burden of the mistakes that adults make today, so I personally think it is extremly important for us to; A. Have a say in what happens see one day when were asked "How could you let them just take it all away" we can say we tried to do something and B. To preserve a future that isn't only brighter for us but brighter for the world. So my question is why don't we try to get youth more involved with what is happening in our world? Why is it 1/1000 kids try to get involved? Why is it 1/50 kids even glance at the news? I am fearful for our future.

You can't be serious. I'm 37 my friend, and I've followed politics since I was around 19. But you can't expect young teenagers like 13-18 year old kids to care. They don't care because it doesn't affect them and they're not interested in it. Politics and following politics is almost like a hobby, like following basketball or baseball. To know whats up you have to be constantly reading the news, reading articles. I like politics so I read articles, but I'm not that interested in something like basketball. Kids are taken care of by their parents, food, clothing, money, shelter. Whatever they need is provided by their parents. Besides, kids aren't even allowed to vote, the pinnacle and center of our political process. When kids can vote, and what happens in politics more concerns their lives, then they will be more interested. When I was 16 all I cared about was getting drunk and getting laid. But I've served in the army, I have a family, what happens in the world influences me now. Now I care.

I have been involved in politics since I was 17 and I am 21 now. The reason I don't think young people get involved politics is because they don't have any political power, because they are not rich or well connected personally. They can't be taken seriously by most people until they get a media push by some megacorp or a powerful relative.

More people your age should be paying attention because you are right when you say, "We are the ones that have to bear the burden of the mistakes that adults make today." Don't even think that these crooked politicians care about your future. All they care about is lining their own pockets.

They don't see it impacting them too much. I have cared since I was like 15. Maybe the minority but I didn't like the government sending my dad off to fight for their oil campaigns. I still played games and hung out like a normal 15 year old, but I still knew what happened in DC affected me. As I got older, I realized you need to care on all levels, not just presidential.

They would if they understood in the U.S., they are the ones who will have to pay off the $17 trillion debt. Either through through direct taxation or a lower standard of living, they will repay it. Me and Obama will both be gone r too senile by then to yell at.

Way too boring. I didn't get interested in it until I turned 57.
