I'm planning a birthday trip which is 5 months away and was wondering are there any websites where I could reserve a hotel without paying anything right now? Just a reservation.

The major Vegas resorts all charge a deposit of one night's stay when you make a reservation directly through them. When you make a reservation on a third-party site, they typically require full payment of your stay.
Some chain hotels/motels will allow you to make a reservation with no deposit, but even many of them in Vegas require a deposit.

You reserve with a credit card BUT it is not charged until the day of the reservation when you check in, no other way to get a reservation

when you book a reservation on your credit card you will be not be charged until you are going through a prepayment site like expedia, priceline, etc.
