nickel back and 3 door down fall into i think its post punk rock and my gf say it just plain rock but plain rock is like ozzy and metallica right?

Shinedown is Hard Rock. It is typified by a heavy use of distorted electric guitars, bass guitar, drums, and often accompanied with pianos and keyboards.
3 Doors Down is Alternative.
Nickelback is Hard Rock, howevewr you could also just consider them rock.
And no, Metallica, believe it or not, is actually Heavy Metal. Same with Ozzy. He would fall under Heavy Metal.

Shinedown is hard rock/pop rock nickleback is hard rock/pop rock and 3 doors down is alternative no metalica is thrash metal and Ozzie is metal

Alternative I think look it up on an itunes music chart and u will find it answer under what genre they are categorized as.
