Would you eat an oyster?

They don't have brains.

Just curious about opinions. Don't hate.

Oysters and most (all?) other shell fish are incapable of thinking. They do have some nerves, but no brain. They basically respond mechanically and don't feel pain like we do.

You will not find logical reasoning to not do so, only dogmatic reasoning "its not vegan period, vegans don't eat animals or their byproducts".

Even Peter Singer one of the main speakers in animal rights & the father of the movement has no justification for not eating them, In his highly regarded book Animal Liberation his position is although science has found little to no evidence of oysters being able to feel pain. That it is easier to give them the benefit of the doubt & avoid eating them, but he recognises this as a weak argument.

Call it an appeal to authority if you will, but if a highly regarded ethicist (his job) of the 20th/21st century who deals in animal welfare & rights can only give this justification. What better answers do you expect from lay people?

I ate them when I was a kid. They're disgusting. You can't chew it and it has the texture of rubber, I never saw the point then and I don't see it now.

Its an animal to me. Its just in a different form. They have a nervous system, they can respond. Oysters protect their soft bodies by snapping their shells tightly closed at the first hint of danger. The cells are fish cells, animal cells not plant cells.

I dont care it doesnt have a brain ,,,,,,,,,,,, Its an oyster not a plant.

When an oyster becomes a plant thats the day I'll eat it. See ?

People who have to ask this will never get it. Science has not determined if they feel pain but I have.

Yes, I would. I eat all kinds of things. clams, oysters, bottle-necks and the like. very tasty and they are best eaten raw. although, I'm not suggesting doing that.

I wouldn't eat one when I was a meat eater, never mind after being a vegetarian for 17 years. Yuck.
