Buy a new hard drive, or replace the laptop?

A few weeks ago my laptop's (Sony Vaio) touchpad was being wonky. I gave it a firm tap a couple of times and then it blue screened and shut off. I turn it back on and i makes some odd beeping sound, before showing me the Vaio screen then a screen saying that the operating System was not found.

I took the hard drive out and put it back in but that didn't work so I just left it dead. After talking with some IT people I suspect that the hard drive might be the problem, but I'm no sure.

I'm just wondering what route I should take. Any suggestions?

The hard drive IS the problem in that case. And well it depends on how much money your looking to dish out. A hard drive will cost 50-80. a new computer will cost atleast 3-5x more.

Or you can always buy a new hard drive, put it in the system, sell it, and then buy a brand new computer with the money.

probably is best to take it to a repair centre. It does sound as though the hard drive has died. You could try replacing it yourself but you would also have to reinstall the operating system from your recovery disks. It sounds a bit beyond you so best leave to the professionals

Either spend the money to repair it.

OR just buy a new laptop, preferably an Acer laptop, they're good.
