Although vegetarians and vegans typically weigh less than their meat-eating counterparts, a vegetarian diet does not always equate to a healthy diet. It is possible for vegetarians to make low-quality diet choices that can lead to weight gain. You may be eating foods, particularly those of the snack kind, that are high in trans fats. Vegetarian foods containing trans fats include many that are convenient-to-eat "on-the-go" fare; for example, cheese pastries, donuts and baked goods. Fast foods such as french fries and onion rings also contain high levels of trans fats. These fats do not have any nutritional benefits, and are also thought to increase the risk of heart disease and strokes.

There are many vegetarian foods that appear healthy but contain "hidden" sugars. drinking too much of certain drinks can contribute to weight gain, and vegetarians who may be focusing more on avoiding animal food sources could be more likely to neglect the calorie content of other consumables. Alcoholic drinks, sodas and processed fruit juices are extremely high in sugar and rank high on the glycemic index, which means they can also cause spikes in blood glucose levels that may lead to further cravings for sugary foods.

In short, watch what you are eating.

Put a two litre water bottle along with a glass on your desk every single morning. Get through it by simply lunch, and do the same inside the afternoon. You’ll exercise better as well as recover faster if you’re hydrated. I drink some water each time someone asks me a absurd question or sends a stupid email... find something that works in your case!

Low-fat protein is a great basis for a weight reduction. Foods like lean turkey, lentils and eggs in the right quantities will keep your own sugar levels even, make you are feeling fuller for longer, lower the GI of the carbs you combine it along with and help repair damaged cells.

Buy smaller plates. Little crockery means portion control is significantly easier – those diminutive helpings suddenly look huge and you’ll be happier to take less.
