Photoshop CS6 crop question?
In CS4, you could restrict the movement of the crop frame by holding down the shift key as you drag the crop frame either left-right or up-down. This feature does not work in CS6. Is there some alternate (new) technique to make the crop frame move in a purely straight line direction when you move it right-left or up-down?
Thanks, Brian, but the video does not address my problem.
Let me try to describe this in more detail.
When you first select the crop tool, it will open up to the full borders of the image, at least in one aspect. Suppose the image ratio is the typical 3:2 and you select the 4x5 (8x10) crop ratio. The outline will appear completely centered in the image with the crop frame touching the top and bottom borders of the image and one inch from each end shaded out. Suppose I want to keep the full height of the crop, but move the frame a little to the left. If I simply drag the crop frame to the left (classic mode), I might slip and move it a tiny bit above or below the image. This will create a blank band along the corresponding border of the image. I could use "Snap to..." to fix this, but it is an additional step. I used to be able to just hold the shift key down while dragging the crop frame and it would not jump above or below the frame. It worked much the same way as it works when you hold "shift" and draw a line wi
Hmm. I know about clicking anywhere in the field to "activate" the crop tool, but shift+drag definitely does not work for me. Maybe it's my old computer. I'm using Windows XP and maybe this feature is not supported in my old OS.

Shift still works, but when the crop outline is dashed it will not let you move it. click on one of the corners or something to activate it (or click and drag to select the crop region). You can now click and drag (and shift will lock it like before).
Switch to Classic mode (Click that little gear on the options bar) if the new mode is annoying and it will behave like you're used to.
You can also use the arrow keys (hold down shift to get larger increments).

Better way is to make the circle marquee as an alpha channel or layer mask channel. This way your image still intact so that you can edit again in the future. For example, you can move your image or move your mask freely. Just remember to unlink the layer and the mask layer, and click on the layer to move the image or click on the mask layer to move your mask (the circle).
