My e-mail link is disabled, as I get 10 or more questions daily that would be better addressed by the entire Yahoo! Answers community. You are cheating yourself of the benefit of asking many people at once and that's not what the e-mail link is for. Sorry...

  • How do a wake a Dell XPS 8700 from "safe sleep" mode?

I read that you push the Windows key, wait one second, then push Enter, but that does nothing.

If I just tap the power button, the computer restarts, but I get the "blue screen" and have to select a restart. This takes about 2 minutes or more and then I get an error message about Windows not shutting down properly.

There must be a keystroke combination that simply wakes the computer up in 2-3 seconds without all that fuss.

    ---

I have set "never" for the power saving option, but it still goes into sleep mode.

  • Photoshop CS6 "Save as" problem...?

I have a new problem with Photoshop CS6. If I open a file using Camera RAW, and process it as usual, CS6 doesn't want to save it the way it used to. I don't know if I changed something by accident or not.

Here's what happens now: After opening from ACR to CS6 and completinhg all of my work, I choose "Save as..." The save as window opens showing the file name and format. The default format seems to be .PSD. I use the drop down to select .jpg. The file saves normally as a .jpg. When I go to close the image from, I get a new prompt asking, "Save changes to Adobe Photoshop document DSC_xxxx.NEF before closing?

I looked up at the file name in the bar above the work space and noticed that it does NOT change from "DSC_xxxx.NEF" to "DSC_xxxx.jpg" after I have saved the file as a .jpg, but it always used to do that. This adds a few extra steps when closing a document and it really slows me down.

In fact, I wouldn't swear to this, but I think it used to save to .jpg by default, without me specifying this.

I don't see a setting in the preferences for what to use as the default file format for saving, so I don't know where to change it back.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Color run photography?

Did anyone ever photograph a color run? You know, where they throw chalk dust or something in the air and people get all colorful. We have one coming to town, but I'm afraid to expose the equipment to the dust. I'm sure that I'd try to stay out of the way and still get hit. I thought about just putting the whole camera in a zip-lock bag with a hole for the end of the lens, which would be protected with an NC filter. The bag would be taped to the edge of the filter. Do you have any thoughts or suggestions?

  • Do you think they need a new photography section?

Do you think they need a new photography section where you can only ask questions about actual photography? No iPhone app questions. No "who is this model" questions. No "how much does this cost at WalMart" questions.

Only about 10% of the questions here really have anything to do with photography.

  • How would you answer this?

If a total stranger came up to you at a public event when you were using a body and lens worth $4-5,000 and asked , "How much did that camera cost anyway?" how would you answer?

  • What is your opinion of an photo industry guru who steals images?

What would you think if you found out that an industry guru who gives workshops to thousands of hopefuls every year and charges $5,000 a day for one-on-one mentoring has been using other people's images - stolen images - as well as their text in his own promotional material?

This is no longer rumor, because he has posted a public apology.

Anyhow, what do think could be or should be done to make this right?

  • Why does my phone battery run down?

I have a new Samsung BrightSide phone. It has a slide-out keyboard. I charge it overnight, regardless of the use during the day. I start every day with a full charge. Most days, I simply carry the phone in my pocket without making/sending or receiving any calls or text messages. Most days, I still have full battery strength indicated at the end of the day. Some days, however, there is only 1 segment lit and yesterday, the battery died at 3 PM.

What settings should I check out? What other variables are there to consider?

    Thanks.

  • 10 points for best answer!?

I will give ten points for the best remark, so long as I find it amusing. Try to say something profound about photography that you think deserves ten points.

Why do people promise ten points for the best answer, as if it is a novel idea?

  • Photoshop CS6 crop question?

In CS4, you could restrict the movement of the crop frame by holding down the shift key as you drag the crop frame either left-right or up-down. This feature does not work in CS6. Is there some alternate (new) technique to make the crop frame move in a purely straight line direction when you move it right-left or up-down?

  • Nikon 24-70 f/2.8... Discuss...?

Pros? Cons? Alternative choices? Will they bring out a VR version?

I have used the 17-55 on my DX cameras for years, but it was the first lens I bought.

Now, I have the 28-300 as well as the 24-85 f/3.5-4.5 VR. Should I spend the money???

  • 10 points for the best amazing fact about photography?

People always promise 10 points for the best answer and they rarely award the points. I promise to be different.

Tell me something about photography that I don't know. Tell me something amazing. It can be about equipment, technique, business, philosophy, anything!

Just make it new and interesting. Even if you don't get the 10 points, this should be fun and educational.

Be sure to check back and see what everyone says.

Be sure to award thumbs up, because they will help me decide in the event of a tie.

  • Do you use a laptop for your photo editing? If so, what do you use?

By "editing," I mean the colloquial for photo manipulation, but that's to much to put in a question.

I am considering getting a laptop for Photoshop, but the Dell that I am borrowing is absolutely horrible for this purpose. If you move your head or the display just a couple of millimeters, the brightness and contrast changes wildly. I just can't tell what I'm doing.

  • Do you think Yahoo! needs to split this section in two?

Do you think we need a section that is actually devoted to photography and another section dedicated to Instagram, Polaroid, LoMo, free photoshop, making collages, mirror vs. camera, "Am I pretty?" or "Could I be a model?" questions?

  • How do I get rid of this stupid PCH.com ad that pops out from the side of my screen?

I keep hitting "Hide Ad," but it won't go away completely. It's making Answers very unpleasant and it's making me hate PCH.com to the point that I would never use their service.

  • How to move the crop tool in CS6 (please read)?

I am used to using the shift key with the crop tool so that it will only move in a STRAIGHT line in whatever direction you are moving the cropped field. If you like where the left and right borders are, for instance, you hold the shift key down so that when you move the crop frame, it will not move left or right at all. It will only move perfectly straight up or down. CS6 does not seem to work this way. Is there a function that replaced this? Thanks/

  • Why does David Letterman always run across the stage when he is introduced?

He runs from left to right as he is introduced and then casually enters from the right. What's the deal with that?

  • What kind of camera did you get for Christmas? How soon will you go pro?

Did you notice the manual that came with your camera?

Did you at least read the quick start guide?

Do you notice that it's not called "Cannon" yet?

Do you realize that Nikon doesn't make a D1500?

Did you know that only you can prevent bad photography?

Don't you get it that it is not possible to properly critique a photo of your feet?

Do you understand that you really can't make a 16x20 print out of your 512 px by 426 px image?

Did you figure out that you really DO look different in pictures than you do in the mirror?

Is it possible that you look bad in pictures because ... (nevermind)!

Maybe you aren't the cutest girl in your group of friends.

Maybe you should consider becoming a hand model if you really want a career as a model.

    What did I leave out?
