Do you think Yahoo! needs to split this section in two?

Do you think we need a section that is actually devoted to photography and another section dedicated to Instagram, Polaroid, LoMo, free photoshop, making collages, mirror vs. camera, "Am I pretty?" or "Could I be a model?" questions?

    Definitely.

Instagram related things shouldn't be involved in either, nor should the attention seeking people asking for compliments on over edited self shots on a cell phone camera. There should be a filter that blocks the word "Instagram" from being mentioned in any question in this category.

I think a section for ametuers looking for critique and advice on their pictures would be beneficial, as long as they were actual photos, not facebook selfies.

I don't really agree with what Steve P said, as it's possible for someone under 17 to be serious about actual photography, but I get what he means, there are tons of teens looking for attention. It's tiring to see the same questions over and over about something that simply doesn't belong here.

On another thought, I think the photography section could easily be split up into several sub categories such as critiques, techniques, lenses, ect.

Maybe Photography and Alternative Photography with the latter being a place for questions about Instagram, Polaroid, LoMo, free photoshop, collages, etc.

YES. That thought has crossed my mind many times. The chasm between true photography and what is *called* photography by many in this forum is getting very, very wide indeed. I'm not real sure how you would separate the two entities. Perhaps have a forum "Photography For Ages 17 and Under".

When I first started on Y?A it was in the Photography section and had that same thought then. It's one of the main reasons I have since pretty much stayed away from that section, had to say F-ing Stop to myself.

Added @ jeanie- Thanks, if you want you can always ask a question in the Motorcycle Section.

    Oh, yes, please!

The instagram, lomo, et cetera have become so prevalent it is hard to find any questions I actually want to spend the time and effort answering.

They have definitely rained on my parade.

PS: We miss you, oh Candid One!

You read my mind!! I was thinking the same thing the other day with another dumb Instagram question being asked.

Trouble is - no one would stick to it - they can't post in the correct forum as it is!

Maybe a section for beginners/potential FB business owners as well.

    CatLady has a great answer.

What about just having a "dumb questions" category. That just about covers everything.
