Do you think they need a new photography section?

Do you think they need a new photography section where you can only ask questions about actual photography? No iPhone app questions. No "who is this model" questions. No "how much does this cost at WalMart" questions.

Only about 10% of the questions here really have anything to do with photography.

Nice idea. I think there should be several sub-categories:

    a) "How do I set up my photography business? I'm 14"

    b) "How much should I charge to shoot the next royal wedding with my phone?"

    c) "Please photoshop this for me"

    d) "I've never taken a photo in my life. What should I buy, the Leica M240 or the Hasselblad HD-5?"

I do not care what hardware they are using; pinhole, iPhone, Canon, Wista, etc. As long as it is a legitimate visual arts photography question I do not have a problem with it being posted in the "Photography" section.

If a question is about specific hardware then ask it in the "Cameras" section. If they want to know who a model is ask it in "Celebrities". If they want to know if they are pretty go to "Polls and Surveys".

Part of the problem is that the asker often relies on Yahoo!'s AI to place the question in a category. Invariably, if they ask "What model is in this picture?" it posts the question to Photography instead of Celebrities because the AI keys in on the word "picture".

The real problem is that the "Photography" section needs to be better moderated.

If it is not a photography question, it should be deleted by Yahoo. For our part, if it is not photography, do not answer it or only let the asker know that they put the question in the wrong section.

This is already the section for questions about photography.

Those who post questions about iPhone apps and other crap have posted in the wrong category.

If there was a "new Photography" section, people would abuse it just the same.

Do do agree that there should be a phone photography section separate from this section. The other questions are just random, but phone photography has come into it's own and does require a section.

I don't think that's necessary. Add too many smaller sections and you now make it more difficult for people to know where to post their questions. This also increases maintenance of the website, reduced activity in each section with a high potential for less questions being answered. It may be nice to see just the things you care about, but there's quite a downside to that.

However, it would be nice if you could run some kind of search and hence create a filtered view of the areas you care about. For example, I answer questions in multiple areas so it would have been nice if I could create a view that aggregates questions from each area into one view.

It wouldn't matter if they did add a new category, people would post in photography anyways.

Only if you answer this simple question first.

    Am I Still Pretty?

Half to three quarters of the questions on all the Y?A categories want me to scream F....STOP!

Sam, I completely agree with you. However, this is unlikely to happen since it would be all but impossible to enforce. Nice idea though.
