Yes, only thing left is their pets, and some even have that. we live in a society that wants to constantly feel protected. so we give up our freedoms for security.

Not exactly.
Insurance is just a way for someone else to pay when the lawyer comes knocking.
Now, President Obama is an excellent example of your question.
Obama-care had NO Tort reform in it. Obama had to be sure that there was no tort reform so his lawyer friends could back him up on it. A doctor has to take on additional responsibilities, but is still just as liable as if he only had one patient to see everyday.
And your Democrat led congress said yes to this.
