Libs: What would you do if the IRS gave special attention to any group with words like "Black"...?

"Hispanic", "Progressive", "Gay", or "Democratic" in their names? And if the administration knew about it for two years and kept it secret?

Update:

My point here was NOT to debate the desirability of allowing tax exempt status for organizations under 501(c), but the practice of some at the IRS to single out conservative groups for special scrutiny. Even many liberals agree that the behavior of the IRS in this case was unconscionable and probably illegal. It is equally wrong regardless of which group was being treated this way. From the most recent news I am hearing, this was NOT just a few low level people in Cincinnati, but something much more far reaching. Given that it was clearly political, it seems obvious that orders must have come from someone fairly high up in the IRS. If so, will the person or persons involved be terminated and prosecuted?

Update 2:

And please don't refer to anything Nixon did as justification for anything, remember how he ended up, deservedly?

It is hard to believe that this was not instigated by an Obama sympathizer, given that this whole sordid mess was to the benefit of the administration. Before anybody flames me, I am NOT implying Obama himself was involved in giving the orders. He does seem genuinely upset over what happened. It seems clear that at least people within the IRS were withholding the story.

Their heads would explode and they would start marching in the streets demanding he step down.

    As they should.

To clarify: Defending the IRS on this only reveals you to be a partisan hack.

@tom joad......"I doubt you even know what 501c is"

This was actually with regards to 501 (c)4.........social welfare organizations.

Now tax exempt status has been heavily abused for a long time (Sharpton and Jesse Jackson??), but pretending the Tea Party is the first and should be targeted STINKS. You can't just ASSUME you know who is a tax cheat based on the word "patriot" or "tea party".

Surely you jest? Didn't Nixon do exactly that and then go on to dissolve the department designed to look into that sort of charge?

It was that overreach that brought it to our attention, if he had not gone that far no one would have known until after he was out of office. Watergate wasn't the only thing Nixon had to answer for and that's the reason Ford issued him such a blanket pardon.

I would be quite shocked since the IRS goes after people involving income taxes

I agree with you that all groups should be treated equally.

The I.R.S. is run independently of White House oversight.

The checks were carried out while the I.R.S. was under the directorship of Douglas H. Shulman, who was *appointed by President George W. Bush*. He left the agency in November at the end of his six-year term.

Maybe if you would stop crying about this online and actually stand up for America, do what I do and attend your local Overpass for Obama Impeachment rally.

    Crybaby.....

They didn't come out and apologize because they felt guilty. The IG was ready to give the information to the House oversight committee, but somebody leaked it to the IRS, giving them the opportunity to start damage control before the committee and media got it

They would have a complete meltdown and it would flood the news 24/7.
