We want to work and study in Edinburgh, UK; how do we do this?

We are Americans. My wife wants to study at the University of Edinburgh. I want to work in IT and/or teaching IT in Edinburgh. How does she get a student visa and I get a work visa in the UK? Also how do I find a job in Edinburgh, which I heard is difficult?

I'd normally say that it's difficult for non-EU citizens to get a work visa here, but we have an absolutely massive shortage of skilled IT people here so you might actually have a chance (I work in IT in Glasgow and can tell you it's a colossal problem for all IT companies here).

Your wife shouldn't have any problem getting a student visa if she has a place offered by Edinburgh Uni.

As the other answerer said, the UK Border Agency website is probably the place to start...

UK boarder agency website tells you how to apply/qualify for visas. Highly unlikely you'd be able to get one.

Edinburgh university website has criteria for applying for a place.

Don't come to scotland. It's horrible. I want to escape.
