my car gives black smoke when i starting enging cold and some time come up screen ( engine system fault )?

my car is ford focus c-max diesel 2006 . 55000 miles

    Your problem could be the EGR valve which could be resolved by a plug in at your local garage, if the light on the dash is shaped like an engine, then that is the engine management light telling you there is some thing needs looking at
