Why do people think pit bulls are coldblooded killers?
Pit bulls can be nice and sweet. Like all dogs it depends on how you train them. Anyone else agree? Give me your opinion.

ANY dog can be nice and sweet, but it's NOT all about how you train them, no matter WHAT dog it is. You can't change it's genetics, can you? Have you ever heard of POOR GENETICS due to BACK YARD BREEDING of dogs with unstable temperaments? Guess not. I hope you learned something from my answer, because it's NOT an opinion. It's a FACT.
Maybe you should use your Google to SEE the actual true stories of dogs that have seriously injured or even killed people and children when they were never even provoked. Go ahead now.....look at the pictures of people who have had their FACE RIPPED off and what reconstructive surgeries they've had, and I'm not just talking about Pit Bulls.

But it's also not necessarily just 'training' v 'genetics'. Training isn't really the right term, too narrow. 'Management' would probably be better. For example up to 90% of dogs which kill or seriously injure people are unaltered males. This is neither 'training' strictly speaking nor 'genetics'. Likewise the CDC found that 2/3's of dogs in serious bite incidents were chained up outside. It's obvious that many or most of the rest are dogs illegally running loose. All these things partly make dogs more aggressive directly (unaltered dogs are, dogs running loose especially in packs tend to be, chaining up a dog can make it more territorial than otherwise) but also markers of a certain type of owner attitude and behavior likely to cause problems. Outright 'training' issues like do-it-yourself protection training, are also likely to go with it, and also likely to cause human aggression incidents.
This type of owner is also associated with back yard breeding. But, I find a lot of the strong statements about 'inbred unstable pits' as well as the ones 'it's just training' to be deficient in any actual scientific evidence. The fact is that for all the controversy about it, this issue has not been studied in a reliable scientific way. Such strong statements are usually based on various people's personal impressions, often gained from incomplete or incorrect media accounts, which is worthless. And even to the extent the impressions are gained from first hand experience, I've dealt with a lot of 'pit bulls' and haven't encountered many if any with bad temperaments toward people, but I recognize that might vary with the place and circumstances.
The only thing that virtually everyone with real credentials in veterinary science agrees is that there is no evidence that likelihood of human aggression or 'unpredictability' can reliably be ascribed to a dog based on what it looks like. Such attribution by appearance is the essence of Breed Specific Legislation, and it's nonsensical. Once everyone agrees BSL is not the solution to anything, then there's plenty of room to debate exactly what all the contributing factors, and their weightings, are in the vicious dog problem.

It depends both on how you train them and their bloodline. I hate to disappoint everyone but sadly breeding does matter. This is a big discussion we have gotten into in my college biology classes and certain bloodlines are bred specifically for those aggressive traits. Just as certain dogs have bloodline bred for athletics. This is one reason people pay so much more for certain PURE breeds of dog, or any animal for that matter. Many pure breds are bred for specific traits. Now that does not mean the dog is going to try to kill and bite everything in sight, that is where training comes in. However, it does mean that if they are bred this way that they are more prone to be aggressive. Every dog is different and will take different amounts of training no matter what blood line. It's not like pit bulls are the only ones bred for aggressive and protective behavior. I have had two pit bulls, one purebred who came off the more aggressive bloodline, which took much more training than my other one, and still had to be watched more carefully in certain situations. It does not make them bad dogs, it makes them misunderstood. Not every purebred is bred for violence either. There are just some bloodlines that you need to watch for and realize that they MIGHT require a bit more work. The website below is to help educate people. As you scroll down there are more options for more info about the different bloodlines as well. The people who say all pit bulls are bad speak out of ignorance as well as those that say nothing has to do with breeding.

No. Its not just how you train or raise them.
If you have an unstable dog, you can't train it out of them. You can't love it out of them. It is who they are and who they are is unacceptable in a domesticated family pet.
Unstable pit bulls are created by over-breeding and ignorant breeders. People who don't understand even the most basic facts about genetics and who will inbred their dogs to get specific colors.
Not all pit bulls are unstable, but the numbers are on the rise. Soon the poorly bred unstable pit-mutts will outnumber the stable well-bred pit bulls and will force action. This action will likely end up in the eradication of every single pit bull, including the stable ones.
We need to find a way to stop backyard breeding. Stop the unstable dogs at their source.

Some people are morons. They let fear run their minds, and this fear will then often turn to hatred. They tend to believe that just because someone could potentially do serious damage, they WILL do that sort of damage. They tend to see the powerful jaws and muscles of the pit bull, for instance, and think that they ALWAYS want to use those jaws and muscles to attack people. They just do not stop to think about how they are probably, to a certain extent, in control of their own movements and may choose not to attack. They also tend to see only that what is negative about this breed/type of dog and think that they are all like those badly brought up dogs that will attack and kill children.

Pitbulls are not the issues... Its the instincts we as americans put into them by breeding them to fight for our pleasure... I have 3 pit-bulls and a maltese and they live perfectly together it all depends on the owner you get it from and where the dogs parents come from... Pit-bulls are good dogs if you only have a few dogs... They are never going to be the pet you bring to the dog park its in their instincts to play rough... And it may piss off other dogs or be too rough for the little ones... They are very human friends and love alll people bog small infants or the elderly... I love my pit-bulls and they love me... If your not ready for then chewing on couches and much training or this beautiful animal... I was and to was worth it... My dog is amazing... She is always there she has never bit anyone she isnt very dog friendly because of her instincts to play rough but she loves people and is really a great pet to have for protection or just a good buddy to have in your home... They are giant lapdogs and they love attention so give them a lot of it... Hope this helped thanks

If you want to know really, then just go to YouTube or Google and look for pit bull attacks. But you don't, you just want to make a pro pit bull statement.

In my opinion all is not what theyre always are well for a dog because pit bulls are really not cold blooded killers because my in my experience dogs only attack you just as the same a 4 year old would get angery and attack you or in other word people just train em to be attack dogs due to they're physical and mental properties even though you can really blame anything after the source you have to blame the source itself like the person who has trained thee dog to be this way!

Ignorance. However, purebred pitbulls, like German Shepherds, do have a lower threshold for biting - however, that only means that a larger minority of them bite as opposed to, say, labradors. The vast majority of purebred pitbulls won't bite. In fact, they come in second behind golden retrievers for tolerance towards humans. That means that while a larger minority will bite, the others are the exact opposite. Interesting, huh?
I always say get a mixed breed so you don't have to worry about genetic issues - whether it's hip dysplasia or low bite threshold. I have an adopted pitbull mix and she's the sweetest little mush in the world.

two simple words: THE MEDIA, plus with all the bans it scares people but the truth is this has been going on for years of diffrent breeds that the government bans to make you feel safer (false safty/short cut) and like there doing somthing instead of going to the source and make tougher dog laws. Yes its ture depends on the hands but alot of tough looking/stroung dogs are used by bad people. Plus pitbulls got one of the highest averages and had lots of dogs being tested for atts which test for aggrestion. Also even in there fighting hystory they were bred not to attack humans since had to go in pit and seperate by hand and any dog that bite was curred (killed) Also there breding comes from butchers needing dog to hold bull so could kill it and also some hystory as fram dog, nanny dog and other things. some people are prejustice and like blaming other things. Also its proven banning doesnt do anything because when pitbulls where banned the dog bite rate went back to normals in mouths or a year and accaly much higher but where pitbulls/no BSL the bite rate is lower but have better dog laws. Also BSL is become a big problem in US 75 breeds banned...:http://peekaboo420420.hubpages.com/hub/List_Of_75_...
it effects you in geranal if pay taxes because alot of it goes to the ban thats why the roads dont get done.
All my favrote breeds are banned/restricted in the us the only breed that I like left is pure mutt (no way trace to breed) and sheltie
also if your dog even LOOKS like a pitbull or banned breed its killed even if doesnt have any of that bred in it, ppretty much a police /animal control says its banned breed it is (they go by looks, not gentics so dont even prove how there genticly a harm if only going for looks) thats abit racsist (breedist ) to me anyway
