Coolant leak in car help?
I've got a 73 dart 318, and up until now nothing leaked, but after driving it for a few miles and reaching my destination it started to spew coolant really badly, I don't think it's coming from the overflow tank, and all the hoses are good, but I'm having trouble finding where it's coming from, I will pressurize the system this weekend and try to locate it. It only leaks when it gets warm, nothing at all leaked when it's cold. Any suggestions? Freeze plug, water pump?
I did check there, that is too far forward, the leak is coming from somewhere near the water pump, which makes me think that's the problem, but it doesn't leak when I start it up, it just leaks when it's warm.

Have you checked the lower drain plug on the radiator itself? I had a similar problem on an old bronco of mine. Be careful tho some of those drain plugs are reversed in the way they unscrew I.e. right=loose left=tight.

likely reason is a undesirable head gasket or a cracked head. The engine fairly sucks the coolant into the cylinder and burns it with the gas. Thats why you do not see any seen leaks. severe white smoke on the exhaust is one sign of this or severe water dripping from the tail pipe. If the leak is sluggish sufficient it incredibly is going to easily use all of the coolant without seen warning signs to locate it. besides a head gasket would be very high priced to repair based on the motor vehicle. you could assume to pay everywhere from $500 - $1500 just to swap the gasket and if the pinnacle is cracked I advise paying for for yet another vehicle, the restoration fee will probable be greater suitable than the motor vehicle is properly worth.

the water pump may leak only when warm as that is when it is under pressure. In 73 they were using 14 lb pressure caps. A coolant recovery cap may allow it to leak out when hot if you have the wrong type cap. Also chrysler products tend to run a bit warn and will over heat with anything less than a 50-50 water coolant mix.
