when you apply for public liability insurance do you have to go through a credit check??
If somebody I live with has bad credit and / or a loan in there name, will that go against me too?

Not for general liability - but you usually have to pay that up front, in full.

Depends on the company, but most of them are doing it now. For the same reasons that people with bad credit are bad loan risks, the same also applied to insurance.
