A new one for me was when I would make a vegemite and cheese sandwich when toasted made the vegemite taste sweeter, but the sandwich taste saltier.

I can see more research on this discover is going to see me experiment with more types of cheese, and more toasterd cheese sandwiches for breakfasts to come

Even as a young child I knew cheese was not good for me. I refused to eat it. I remember one time I was acting up because cheese was the main portion of the meal and I refused to eat it. My parents made me sit at the table from lunch until dinner time and I sat quietly having already making my displeasure known with a full plate of mac and cheese in front of me and I wouldn't relent. A few weeks after that, harboring hard feelings towards my parents I had a doctors appointment for a vacination or something and the Dr asked me if I had any questions. I said yes, I hate cheese and milk and that it makes me sick. My mom who was there started saying how I was stubborn and the Dr told her to stop and let me tell the story. I said that if I ate it I'd have a stomach ache, get a big belly then poop for days and my bum hurt. The Dr told my mother she thought I had lactose introlerance which would explain a lot so she ordered a few tests. On a scratch test I had a really bad reaction to dairy related products from butter to milk to sour cream to all the things that my meals were served with, and I was finally validated.

In college, as we still do when we hang around, my room mate and I kept a large block of cheddar, or smoked baby swiss, in the refrigerator. Go for a beer, slice off a chunk, and nibble on it while you watched movies or studied.

I was introduced to gruyere while working at coffee house that sold sandwiches. I happend to be the prep cook; one for them, two for me. I still love gruyere and few appreciate the taste. I can't walk by a display of gruyere without buying some. It might not be really in the budget, but I can find a way to make it and some table crackers fit.

Pepper jack is a favorite of mine and the only bad cheese memory I have. I tried giving a taste to a friend's daughter. Her dislike was rather like being on the wrong end of a shotgun blast. I got asked why I was stripped to the waist and taking a bath in the kitchen sink.

Through europe, I'd ask for a cheese plate at lunch. In the UK, I asked for a ploughman's at lunch. Here at home, even at allegedly authentic UK or European restaurants, I tend to get the same look the dog gives you if you fart when I order either for lunch. I know I'm dumb, but when I go to a place called the Londonner, La Parisienne, I generally assume that it's on the menu and order without looking at the menu. Bad manners or a brain fart on my part, your call.

Still, nothing beats the disappointment I experienced at a place near where I worked that featured Shepherd's Pie on the menu. I was expecting something a little more authentic; a base of slow cooked beef topped with mashed potatoes, grated cheese and a pint of Guiness. I got the house meatloaf with a scoop of mashed potatoes on top, with brown gravy and grudgingly grated jack cheese.

when i was a child we could barely ever afford to have cheese in our house, so that was a bad memory. a good memory was last year for christmas, my husband got us a family subscription to the delaware abbey cheese club! every month we got a big box filled with 5 types of cheese from around the world!

Most of my cheese memories are good, because I love most real cheeses. My one bad cheese memory is ordering a grilled cheddar cheese sandwich and they used something like cheese whiz instead of real cheddar. It was absolutely horrid and also quite messy.

One of my best memories was when I was experimenting with different cheeses, fruits and vegetables and bread for grilled cheese. I made a grilled cheese on rosemary chiabatta bread with Bra Tenaro Cheese and thinly slice apples with a good grinding of Telechiara fresh ground black pepper. I had it with a glass of Pinot Noir. I almost swooned with my first bit of that delicious sandwich.

processed cheese food is not as good as real cheese. i like cheese warm, at room temperature. i remember good memories of eating real American cheese. i haven't eaten real American cheese in a very long time.
