Is Wayne Rooney going to leave Old Trafford & if so, where to?

Can we really trust the news media when it comes to Wayne's future?

Despite a newspaper article to the contrary, it seems that rumours that he was going to Newcastle have quickly been quashed.

While Bayern Munich has denied all interest in an "aging" Rooney (h/t The Independent), there are others who have been linked to his services.

Among those clubs include La Liga powerhouse Real Madrid, who are said to be in secret talks with United about a Rooney-Cristiano Ronaldo reunion (h/t Express News), and fellow EPL squad Arsenal, after manager Arsene Wegner did not rule out his club making a bid for the disgruntled United star (via Express News).

What are your thoughts?

It seems every year there are talks about Rooney's future but it never comes to fruition. This time is different however, as Sir Alex Ferguson is gone. I think he is certainly leaving but to where is a tough call. I think Real Madrid is certainly the front runner but I wouldn't be suprised if big spenders PSG pull a swoop de swoop and offer a monster bid. An inside source near Neymar and Santos has said that a deal to Munich is "locked up." It's not a rumor anymore, the bid is in and this summer Neymar is going to Munich which would make it hard to Munich to spend another huge chunk of cash for Rooney's services. I say he shocks everybody and goes to PSG.

    monaco

Italian sides are too poor, UTD would rather not sell to another prem side, barca will be going after neymar, atleti will want to buy someone who will likely increase in value, real and bayern should be looking at better players and more natural finishers as their no.9s, dortmund are a side who will likely want to develop youth more than buy and psg don't need him with lavezzi, moura and ibra already at the club.

That just leaves clubs who can't attract players with too much more than money like monaco, anzhi, galatasaray, maybe an mls side etc. Out of those type of clubs monaco will be offer the better lifestyle, nicer weather just as much if not more money plus its closer to home for him. After buying falcao (assuming it happens) it also stands to reason that monaco wont stop there and will want to try and sign at least 4 or 5 more top quality players and if rooney is easy to get why not go for him?

at this point i would say the 5 most likely places for him to be are

    monaco

utd - like i said monaco will more than likely be interested and if rooney doesn't want to go there he isn't going to want to join a rich eastern European/mls side probably leaving him with no other option than to stay

everton - don't think utd would mind selling to everton since they are some way off utd in terms of quality. efc obviously aren't big spenders however moyes will likely want to bring in 1 or 2 players from there and i don't think a swap deal involving fellaini or baines is off the cards.

chelsea- need a striker, have the money and would probably be rooneys preferred destination. utd however will be very hesitant about selling to a "similar quality" team in the same league (they shouldNT be chelski are garbage but that's not to say they wont be)

psg- don't need him lavezzi and ibra are better and moura is a different type of player however they could use some more strength in depth and where most clubs would buy a 10-15M player max i wouldn't put it past them to splash the cash.

I really doubt that Rooney will go, with the appointment of Moyes his chance of leaving OT is almost 0. Moyes wants to keep his former player

He is not good enough to get into any top side outside the EPL (i.e. RMA, Barca, Bayern). I think he'll go to Chelsea.
