Is homosexuality a natural part of the human condition?

Why do we need to give you reasons for something that has always been a part of the human race and many other animal species?

It's safe to say that homosexuality is natural since it has existed since the first humans were walking the planet and has existed long before that in other animals.

It would be like questioning whether a tree is natural.

Eric- Better not ask such questions in a forum like Yahoo Answers. People from all over the world will answer, many times with conflicting opinions. Check out some other threads and you'll see that people can be rude and bullying(both teams). Better talk to your parents.

Anyway IMHO, its NOT a part of the NATURAL human condition. Some people claim that its seen in about 400-500 animal species, so its natural, but thats not a valid claim at all. Just because ALL species develop diseases due to ANY reason( genetic, environmental, etc ) doesn't mean that it is natural.

Sexual intercourse is designed to produce the next generation. IN animals. Thats why we get attracted to the other sex. But thats only the animal part.

However, as human beings we can give a higher meaning to the act of sex. Its about understanding the opposite sex. Understanding life on Earth as a human being. Its about creating a lifelong commitment to a person who is the polar opposite of you. Mentally, emotionally, physically. Mark OPPOSITE and EQUAL. Its about understanding what your parents went through to bring you up. That is what makes it sacred.

You must understand that sex is merely a vehicle for a higher purpose. Not the goal in itself. And certainly not PLEASURE, or so called FULFILLMENT that homosexually attracted people are seeking. Anyway many heterosexually attracted people also don't understand this, so they can't really argue.

My 2 cents anyway....

But remember, your parents will be your best guides in this issue. And don't feel very offended if anyone insults you.

You're very unlikely to get an unbiased answer here. Views against calling homosexuality as a problem are very unpopular here!!

@rohan I'm a Hindu from India. Hinduism is as old as the human race. And Dharma is as old as Creation itself. I know a lot of EXPERTS claim hinduism supports all sexual freedom, but I'll take this chance to say that IT DOES NOT.

well considering 10% of male sheep are homosexuals with no desire to mate with a female it isn't a human condition and is completely natural.

The reasons will vary from species to species like the pygmy chimp is meant to engage in lesbian activity in order to raise their social status within the group.

some use it as a stress relief in some animals, some use it to create a closer community there will most definitely be a lot more reasons than that

Homosexuality is a natural part of nature, of animal kingdom. So it is natural for human condition. unfortunately thinking too much about behaviours, giving them meaning and be prejudiced is a natural part of human condition...

It's a natural part of the animal condition. 1,500 species of animals, including humans, practice homosexuality.

I think its very natural . Most of us grow up in cultures that are not homophobic/transphobic but also heterosexist and heternormative .

So most of us get conditioned to believe there are only 2 genders- male/female and only 1 sexuality - heterosexuality

But , thats farthest thing from truth . Human sexuality is a complex thing . Homosexuality has always existed and ALWAYS WILL ! These homophobic religions are not more than 5000 year old , and they will not survive another few thousand years at most !

But , homosexuality always was and always will be , not just in humans but throughout animal kingdom

Hinduism itself is ever changing religion . Many gods of present day hinduism are not more than a few thousand years old . I read somewhere ganesha was invented just a millenium back .

Homo sapiens is atleast 200 thousand years old ! And in your own religion , we hear of an ape man called 'hanuman' . Who was he ?? a separate , now extinct species of genus 'homo' ??

Also some hindus like to claim rama lived 17 lakh years ago . How could it be possible when homo sapiens (modern man) himself evolved just 200 thousand (2 lakh ) years ago ?!

Homosexuality Isn't a curse or a disease, some people are born homosexual and some are not.

There are like 420 animal species with tendencies of homosexuality.

Yes, of course it is. It's just as natural as some people being left handed and some right handed, one is just more common than the other, It is also present in nearly all other animal species.

It's not just a part of humanity but it's a part of several hundred different species of animal.
