Is there anything to make my period easier to cope with?

I'm 20 and I've had my period for 6 years now. Obviously for the first couple of years it was irregular but after a year or two it became regular. For the last year or so they've been getting worse. Usually they start the same date or 1/2 days apart but now it's starts 5/6 days early or late. It lasts for 3/4 days and that hasn't changed but it's a lot heavier and the stomach cramps last longer and sometimes they're so bad I start crying and I can't move about.

It's getting on my nerves. I've tried some natural remedies that I've found on the internet but nothing works. I'm seeing a doctor next week for other reasons, and I was wondering if there's anything they can do to make my period easier to cope with?

I was thinking of going on the pill because I've heard it makes periods easier, but I'm not sexually active so I'm not sure they would prescribe me some.

They're not going to ask for proof that you've been sexually active and there's many reasons why people go on yourself, some for the reason you're thinking of, I went on it to make mines more regular because I could never guess when mine was going to ruin my day, and there's other reasons.

Be careful though, I heard about the pill apparently making periods easier and it's not the same for everyone - while I was on the pill, my period pain was immense, I had to take painkillers and couldn't do anything until they kicked in, had to have a hot water bottle and all that...I came off the pill about a month and a half ago because I'm having an operation soon (higher chance of high blood pressure and I think blood clots too) and the one period I've had since was practically painless!

If nothing else is working for you though, honestly it's probably worth a try, and there's several different pills about these days, I've been on 3 different ones and the last one I was on lessened the pain slightly, and all of us girls are different, one just might work for you!

There's a lot of things you can do to make it easier to cope with. I've read of women doing things like taking hot baths(helps with cramping) & exercising(also helps with cramps). Maybe you should talk to your Dr. about the pill. And just because you're not sexually active doesn't mean they won't prescribe it to you. A lot of women are on the pill just to ease their periods.

you can get these like heat patches that you can attach to your tummy with plasters and it will stay warm all day like a water bottle. otherwise i take 2 nurofen extras in the morning and they last til the end of school, and seize any oppurtunity to run around, me n my friends make a ball out of gloves and just play with it and the exercise helps!!!

If you're going to the Doctor anyway, ask them then :)
