why are molecules shaped in spirals on visualizations?

On places like wikipedia, most molecules (or proteins mainly) are shaped like clumped together spirals and strings. Would they actually look like this zoomed in?

Yes, they would actually have that shape if you could look at them with your naked eyes. Long chain molecules such as proteins tend to fold up and clump because of the electrostatic attraction between the different arms of the molecule.
