Is this area of Panama City Safe?
Im a 19 year old Panamanian American, born and raised in the Bay Area. Ive visited Panama a few times but its been 5 years. I obviously stand out from the average lower middle class Panamanians by the way i dress although im from a dangerous part of the Bay Area. Its a whole different culture.
I will be staying in Parque Lefevree, in Panama City. By the Iglesia De Piedra & the Super 99 & Pio Pio. I know its not a tourist area at all, & like I said i stand out with my jordan sneakers & Raiders t-shirts. I dont have a car so ill be on foot, and Ill probably be walkin to Via Espana & eating across the street at a little spot in Rio Abajo. I will also be visiting the local chinese owned store about 3 blocks away friom the house multiple times a day for cold drinks and sodas.
I am also planning to visit the street markets in Calidonia. I used to go all the time when I was a child, is it still safe?

Hi
Where you will be staying is fine. Like anywhere else just be aware of your surroundings. Daytime and evenings are fine to walk around. Clothing or brands should pose no problems. It is easy walking around the city but when in doubt take a taxi (they are cheap. Most trips ... $2 to $3).
As far Calidonia, it is a market environment so just watch your pockets and keep everything secure.
I lived there for six months .. walked and traveled around the city and never felt unsafe. There are dangerous areas but there is no need to visit them. Don't forget to visit Calle Uruguay and Casco Vejo for some fun if you are into nightlife.
Enjoy

I think you'll be fine in the city as long as you don't basically go "Hey look at me! I'm a gringo with a lot of money on me and expensive clothes!!!". That and never go into Chorrillo.... you'll die within a few minutes there.
