Yes, but they might try to take advantage of our sudden act of kindness and rebel against us. :P But maybe offering them a glass of nice, cold orange juice will ease their decision. ^.^

Nope. Simply put: they're insects. They're so small and primitive relative to us that "respect", like most of the world around them, goes right over their heads.

Really, your average puppy or kitten or even human infant has WAY more going on in its head than your average insect does. Insects are basically tiny living robots--they eat, molt, grow, eat some more, molt and grow some more, breed and then die. And while there's larval stages for some and complications for others, that's pretty solidly true of them all. They do the business of life almost entirely in a reflexive, mechanical manner.

And most vertebrate life gets this: most land vertebrates kill whatever insects they run into (or eat them, as some birds, amphibians and reptiles do). Flies and the like in particular have evolved to breed by the hundreds just to compensate for that.

There's a metaphor in here somewhere, about trolls on this internet, I'm sure. Or at least the bots[*]. Pun intended.

Source(s): [*]--Before the word "robot" was in widespread use, "bots" were commonly used to refer to the sorts of flies that harassed cattle.

Flies were doing what they do millions of years before humans, or squirrels for that matter, evolved. So, clearly not.

If we started treating them with more respect, we'd be in a for a huge surprise. They would view it as weakness on our part and they would cease that opportunity to consolidate and strengthen their forces. They would have time to prepare for a massive invasion and conquest by using our humility and mercy against us. So no, we mustn't yield to them.

They come into homes uninvited and they're there without paying a dime, they deserve to be mistreated!
