Rules for border crossing with a boat.?

Im going from the US into canada. Ive done this before. But not with a boat and im wondering what are the rule and regulations.

1. Does the boat have to be out of the water for a certain period of time.

2. What do i need paper work wise to take it over the border.

3. Would i have to pay to cross the border with a boat.

4. I have an american boat license. Do i need a canadian one also? I eill be in canada for less than 45 days.

Help me learn some of this stuff. I havnt had allot of time to research this for myself. I appreciate all the help. And if theres nything i forgot to ask or should know. Feel free to tell me. Thanks for your time.

Here is the link you need. It is "Pat's Boating in Canada" and covers both 'boating across the border, as well as 'driving and bringing your US boat across the water. . . It is (and has been for a long time) the best resource for this information on the Internet. It is also kept updated.

Capt. John's link looks good and thorough.

I haven't done this for a while myself, but offhand:

    - no the boat does not have to be hauled out

    - you might need boat registration documents, but I don't recall being asked

    - you have to pay a yearly fee to take a boat into the US and get a sticker. A while back it was $25

    - some of the food rules were crazy, like not being able to take potatoes in either direction, even Oregon potatoes bought in Canada back into the US, unless they were in a sealed bag. One guy said it was OK as long ans we cooked and ate them the same day.

Oh, I guess you mean on a trailer. Then the rules about the ships master going ashore with the documents etc. clearly don't apply, and the border guys might be more likely to check registration papers and make sure you were not importing the boat.

Canada has rules about invasive species like milfoil that have to be removed from the boat before trailering between different regions.

in case you're vacationing from the U. S. into Canada you like a valid passport. the U. S. replaced thier rules at present and a a start certificates on my own won't furnish you get right of entry to back into the U. S. (stupid i know) So ensure you have a valid passport and additionally you would be fantastic.
