Does anyone here use slackware?

Just curious as to how people here view it. Haven't used it for a while because have no personal computer at the moment but enjoyed it a lot a learned loads from it.

Just wondering if anyone here has any opinions on 14.0. By the time I get around to having a computer for it, I bet it'll spend a long time updating.

I've used Slackware for about ten years. 14.0 is fairly stable, as was 13.37. 13.0 was not very good, unfortunately, but 12.2 was very good. The various live versions between 13.37 and 14.0 were pretty bad, but 14.0 is very good.

A lot of the problem was the kernels. 2.6 was a good usable kernel, but some of the following versions were not that great, and a few of them caused problems. I'm currently using the 3.6.11 kernel because it is rock solid, and does not have the problems the later kernels have. I would recommend avoiding later kernels until they work out some of the problems with them. The linux kernel is currently in a state of flux. We were on 2.6 for a long time, but now they are playing musical versions, and have blown through several "version" to the 3.9.x. the 3.9 is one of the best, but still has issues and I would recommend not using it.

Slackware like all Linux distributions are upgraded on a regular basis two or three times a year. 14 is their latest release, I have never tried Slackwear because it's an install release rather than being a live dvd system where one can run and try it out from a live disk, My hobby is downloading and testing out Linux distributions. I have downloaded 4 in the last couple of days that I'm going to make live dvd from over the weekend and give them a spin, Those I like I will install on USB jump drives

No, I don't but I plan on using it some time, to see how it is.
