Make sure you design your car emergency kit based on the type of climate you live in. You may need an ice scrapper or snow shovel if you live where there is severe weather. Or if you live in the desert you may want to keep pouches of emergency water in the kit. Light sticks, 5 year shelf life food bars and water pouches, survival blankets are all inexpensive items that can save the day if ever needed. Duct tape also is very versatile, inexpensive and can come in very handy. It's not a bad idea to have a $20 bill hidden in the kit in case you find yourself with no cash in an emergency situation.

I have noticed that car emergency kits are like a medicine cabinet at home. Band aids and first aid spray. But if you come on a car accident you need thing like tourniquets, a good tool for cutting seat belts and breaking glass out of windows and door.

Car wash kits are a different matter- a bucket, soft cloth and mild soap. Now a nice interior detail kit would be a nice addition- a stiff brush that can get dirt and grit out of crevices and a solvent like you use on eye glasses to clean the instrument panel.
